Artists work in different ways. This is how I create, which works best for me.
Most all the work I do comes from my doodles, or little sketches and drawings I create in my sketch book. I'll draw on little scraps of paper, the back of my kid's homework papers, or even on napkins. Hey, whatever works in the moment, right? So if I find myself in a hurry to write down or sketch a quick idea, I'll use whatever I can to get it down on something. When inspired, act!
From there I can either enlarge the artwork on my printer, and then use my light table to trace over that, or I can use it the size it is. Whatever is suitable to the project I'm working on at the time. Next, I either paint my art using watercolors or acrylics, or I scan it into my computer to color it and make slight digital enhancements with Photoshop. I can add text, insert it into a layout for brochures, greeting cards, web sites, or different products. I may simply print it out for my portfolio. I like working with my computer to create the finished art. Sometimes though, it's nice to sit down with brushes and paint, and do it "the old fashioned way." It's so relaxing, and I enjoy it so much that I often lose track of time! Whoops!
